Dear Pierce,
I four praise of my article
wakes me feel timidly proud.
Just once said I had a lot of
"killarresq freuch" into my
writing. When I had finished
Joe's book a fortnight ago I
was thinking how much more
of it his writing has than mine.
Good luck to him.
I four took a great deal of
pain about the choosing of
photographs for the article.
They are a beautiful selection.
And even were right in
thinking that Monroe
Arianni would not forget
me. The invitation for Wednesday
evening came this morning. The
only reason is that I had a date
with a girl friend in the tea-
room at the Screate! And I'd
have to ask her to let me come
early or change the day
altogether.

Dear Father Genan:
Thank you very much for the chape for ten guineas and for the most appreciated gift of "The Capuchin Annual" which followed shortly afterwards. I feel very much in your debt for this grand present. I was also greatly relieved by this morning's post to see that my article on Mrs. Concannon is at last in print. Now I hope for peace from Mother Imelda!
We have Wilfrid Sheed here with us for a week-end and return to Downings next Wednesday. Frank asked me to have him for a week or so.
The grandmother has been rather painfully ill the whole year, so that the flat in London has not been a very gay place and she cannot be moved.
I hope the printing strike did not involve you in too hideous troubles as it did so many editors of my acquaintance.

Still going strong is Tom Crean's Antartic watch, held by his widow. Tom's daughters hold his sword. His portrait looks down on them.
