Dear.....
The de facto recognition which has already been accorded the State of Israel, by the Republic of Ireland, is causing grave concern to a number of Catholics in this country. In the circumstances it is felt that the all-important implications of such recognition should be placed before you for consideration.
In the first place it will be readily admitted by Jew and Christian alike that the State of Israel is de facto a religious-Political entity. This peculiar quality of the new State places any question of recognition on an altogether different plane from ordinarily accepted inter-nation courtesy, such as exists say, between India and the Republic of Ireland. These peculiar circumstances bring to the forefront the question of recognition of a particular religion and anyone associated with the matter must ask—can the Catholic Nation of Ireland recognise a religious-political entity which is the direct antithesis of all it stands for in its allegiance to Christ the King? By what right or authority, therefore, had the Minister for External Affairs the power to commit this Catholic country to the de facto recognition (which is always simply the prelude to the full de jure recognition) of the Talmudistic State of Israel?
Lest this be misunderstood for what has become known as anti-Semitism I should like to point out the Catholic teaching on the matter of non-Catholic thought, particularly in relation to the Jews: “The Church is wont to see that no one is forced to embrace Christianity against his will . . .” and again: “Persecution of the Jews is particularly odious to the Church because it was from the Jewish Nation that Our Divine Lord came, and they are especially dear to His Sacred Heart”. I give you these quotations, merely to show that in Catholic thought there can be no question of opposition to the Jews as persons. The Jewish Nation, and particularly the Jewish Nation as expressed in the creation of the State of Israel, is a totally different matter. To put it briefly, you have on the one side—the Mystical Body of Christ, the Catholic Church, which is the divinely appointed institution of God for the ordered return of man to Him and into which all States and Nations are called. On the other side you have the Jewish Nation with the religious and political aim of uniting the nations of the world under their own domination in what they refer to as the Messianic Age.
For us the Messias has come and given us the One Way. For the Jewish Nation the Messias has yet to come and be ushered in during the Messianic Age which they are creating, step by step in the realm of world politics. In this connection you may recall a letter addressed to Mr. A. Newman, P.C., from the Chief Rabbi, Dr. Hertzog of Palestine, which appeared in the Irish Independent of January 6th, 1948. Writing with reference to the establishment of the new State. Dr. Hertzog stated: “Eventually it will lead to the inauguration of the true union of the Nations through which will be fulfilled the eternal message to mankind of our immortal prophets”. (See end).
This statement can have only one meaning—viz: That the true union of the Nations was, and is, destined by God to be brought about, not by the acceptance of the True Messias, Our Lord Jesus Christ, but by the Jewish Nation, rejecting Our Lord. It must be obvious that as this union of nations of which Dr. Hertzog speaks is to be brought about, against the Order instituted by God become Man it will be disastrous for the Nations, as every revolt against the Divine Order—that is, every attempt by men to impose their will on God—leads to disaster. The union of the Nations to be brought about by Israel, rejecting Our Lord, will be a disordered union and will therefore mean slavery for the Nations. Nations, including the Jewish Nation, can only develop rightly by the acceptance of Christ the King.
Again may I point out that according to the Balfour Declaration, the Jews can be citizens of the new State and of all the other States at the same time and so are placed in an especially favoured position for the imposition of their “union” on the other Nations. You will appreciate that they cannot succeed in a policy which entails the complete elimination of the Supernatural from the world.
However, on the question of recognition by our Republic, you sir, have a grave responsibility before God and to our people. I do not think you will fail Our Lord Jesus Christ. I do not think Ireland will sell Christ for thirty pieces of silver, or for any other economic or political consideration which may be the bait involved, and I sincerely appeal to you to exercise your influence to have the decision of de facto recognition abrogated, and under no circumstances to allow de jure recognition of the present State of Israel to be granted by our Government. By doing this—not only will you help to prevent Ireland being branded one of the Judas nations of the earth but you will assist in maintaining the oldest and greatest tradition of our people—Loyalty to the Kingship of Christ.

FUTURE OF PALESTINE
Chief Rabbi's Letter to Dublin Man.
(Irish Independent, [Dublin], Jan. 6th 1948).
The following letter has been received by Mr. Arthur Newman, P.C., Balholm, Shrewsbury Road, Dublin, from Dr. Hertzog, Chief Rabbi of Palestine, and formerly Rabbi of the Jewish community in Dublin.
“It was a happy thought on your part to have cabled me your felicitations on that great day which marked a new era in Jewish history. To me it is as clear as daylight that Providence is now re-shaping history, and that out of this small beginning of Jewish statehood, something exceedingly great will evolve, D.V., within the none too distant future.
“Eventually it will lead to the inauguration of that true union of the nations through which will be fulfilled the eternal message to mankind of our immortal prophets. (Italics ours)
“Let not our brethren in the diaspora be distressed by our trials, travails and sacrifices. The hand of God has now replanted us here, and no machinations of political expediency or outburst of incited fury will arrest our march towards our full self-realization in this, our dear, holy land.
“Our heart aches for Jerusalem, but she will become all the dearer to us from now onwards, and if not yet the political capital she will become the spiritual and cultural centre of the Jewish State, and of all Israel throughout the globe. Our faith is immovable that the word of God concerning Israel and the land promised to the Patriarchs will be fulfilled by special Divine Providence speedily in our days.”
