Capuchin Convent,
Charlotte Quay, Cork.
Owing to the recent expulsions in France in pursuance of the policy of persecution adopted by the present French ministry, and which has resulted in breaking up the whole religious system of that country, casting multitudes of Cloistered Monks and Friars adrift upon the world, many of them being literally like their Divine Master and Model, "without a place whereon to lay their heads," the Capuchin Fathers in Cork, although greatly straitened in means, having two houses almost solely dependent upon the receipts at the church doors on Sundays and holidays, have had their already heavy burdens considerably augmented by the arrival of a number of students in theology and their professors from the Nantes Convent, from which they were expelled under circumstances of peculiar hardship, as fully detailed in the Cork papers. The Cork Convent, to which necessary additions are being made to render it capable of meeting the requirements of the Rule of St. Francis which is strictly observed by the Fathers, does not afford sufficient accommodation to the few religious who inhabit it. As the Rochestown Noviciate has more than its full complement of religious, and as only a temporary place of refuge has been with much difficulty procured at Whitepoint, near Queenstown, from which the Friars will soon have to be removed, there is an urgent need of pushing on the erection of two additional wings adjoining the Cork house; and it is to enable the Fathers to accomplish this work of absolute necessity and dispense such poor hospitality as they can to their persecuted French brethren, that an appeal is now made to public generosity to supplement the funds which are being strictly and exclusively applied to the interior decorations of the Church of the Most Holy Trinity—endeared to all Irishmen and admirers of the great Apostle of Temperance as "Father Mathew's Chapel,"—and the construction of the above-mentioned wings to the Convent, built in the simplest and most inexpensive style. Stained glass window. Subject. The Adoration of the Sacred Heart . The window contains in the left hand opening the figure of the Sacred Heart.
Colours . Ruby , purples blues , white , lower portion of the opening contains kneelin figure of St Gobinett of Ballyvurney . . . patron of bees . in one of the hands a staff , in the other a hive of bees from which the bees ascend . Colours , mixed greens and neutral , garments richly ornamented in bright patterns . At the top of the window choir of Angels with purple and ruby wings . with richly ornamented garments .
The right opening contains the figures of three Munster Saints , At the base St Albert carrying a Church and Rosary , garments in rich varied greens and amber , richly diapered in ornament .
Above the figure of St Ita ? above her hands three jewels representing the three vartues , Poverty Chastity and Obedience . Colours . warm neuyral tones 3rd Figure . St Finbarr with staff and supporting a Church . Colours . richly blue , ornamental blues . At the top choir of angels as in the left opening The back ground in these three openings and in the tracery is a rich varied blue , with flowers and stars as diaper .
Third Window . Sacred Heart and St Francis Of Assisi . In the left opening is a figure of our Lord . colour , rich varied rubies , blue and green background , the border containing figures of Irish Saints . Right opening , St Francis of Assisi , colour rich ambers holding bird , other birds are shown at the feet of our Lord . Subjects top to bottom appropriate to principal figures . Tracery containing ornaments zz in similar colours to background zz of main subjects . Fixed 1916. x

The windows were designed and made in the Studios of Clark and Son under the supervision of Harry Clark . R.H.A. (Now deceased. 1933;) and erected in the Franciscan Capuchin Church. Cork 1928.

Memorial window erected by Cork Trades Unionists in grateful recognition of the services rendered by Very Rev, Fr. Thomas (Dowling) O.S.F.C. in ameliorating the lot of the workers during a period of unexampled distress caused by the European War 1914-1918.
