"we had a clergy golf competition, playing for the first time for the Capuchin Trophy. The winner turned out to be none other than the brave Buckley. His success was all the more interesting and unextected as he had been laid up for the past month with a form of fibrositus on his right shoulder and arm and also on the back of his neck. He has been attending the doctor, and for the past two weeks undergoing physioteraphy ; for over a month he has not played any golf and warned not to do so. However, contrary to all medical advice, he 'togged out' and played the best golf of his life'..... So the Capuchin Cup was kept in the family. One other Cap, also received a prize - Bernard Cronin a novice to the world of golf, who was second in the 24 handicap grade, being beaten by the bishop (Naidoo). We had a lunch etc. at the friary in Athlone afterwards" and from the Dioceses of Livingstone, Zambia..... Diocesan Pastoral Meeting, Aug. 28-30th. A Conference, fully representative of every strata of Catholicism in the Diocese was held at Malengwa, Mongu, during the last week of August. It was a historic occasion ; gathered together for the first time were priests, religious and lay-people, all delegated by their respective authorities to hammer out a policy for 'building the Church in western Zambia'. Prior to the gathering there had been months of work, study and prayer so it is not suprising that the fruit of the Conference was both successful and encouraging. The resolutions will now be carried back to the local churches.
